Hawi Tezera, a renowned female Oromo singer has been released from the TPLF gulag after three months of incarceration. She was detained by the Ethiopian Federal Police after releasing Afaan Oromo protest single music that is critical of the Ethiopian government plan known as the Master Plan to expand the capital city Addis Ababa into the Oromia, a federal state in Ethiopia. In her music she also condemned the killings of peaceful protesters who were mercilessly killed by the Ethiopian government army.
Hawai was brutally beaten, tortured and kept in prison for more than three months as the Ethiopian government led by a minority group is afraid that her music would bring more protesters to the streets.
After going through physical and emotional damage at the prison, she has been released from prison and has joined her family in Sululta, a twon 20km north of the capital, Addis Abeba.
